In order to reach under-served populations, Planned Parenthood of Greater Washington and North Idaho launched a Mobile Health Center. A custom tent was budgeted for, and a design had to be found that could balance disparate needs. The brief requested that the tent be more lightly branded to avoid attracting unwelcome attention from people who object to Planned Parenthood and the health care we provide. At the same time, we are a trusted brand, and wanted that to speak to the patients we were providing services to. Additionally, the tent is used during the hot Central and Eastern Washington summers, and therefore needed to avoid absorbing as much heat as possible.

The design solution I came up with was to create a custom elevation map of a cross-section of our service area for a specific, yet abstract, design on the tent exterior. By keeping the roof white, we were both eye-catching and helped to keep the tent cooler. The brand-blue band provides contrast and Planned Parenthood touches for communicating what the tent is there for. The brand colors and map used on the tent exterior were utilized for advertising future Mobile Health Center stops.

The interior of the tent was fully branded, bringing the Planned Parenthood health center experience on the road to folks who might not otherwise get to us.
